Cookies are obviously more powerful than hidden form fields. Since cookies persist
between browser sessions.
Cookies that specify long-term user preferences should specify an expiration date of several years to help ensure that the cookies will be available as needed in the future.
Cookies that specify short-term state information should expire in days at which point the expired (state) cookies are automatically destroyed.
